PAT LAPARESSE
Since the beginning of International Lifeguard Appreciation Day on July 31st, you may have noticed the appearance of a lifeguard sloth representing the Lifesaving Society on the social media pages of various aquatic centers.
Meet Pat LaParesse!
Pat LaParesse, our new mascot, was created as part of our campaign to promote and professionalize lifeguarding. Its mission is to:
- Highlight lifeguards' skills
- Promote careers in the aquatic field
- Foster pride in this profession
- Break down stereotypes about lifeguarding
A Not-So-Lazy Sloth
Born from discussions with lifeguards of all ages, the Pat LaParesse plush toy plays with symbols of lifeguards' daily lives. This adorable mascot—a sloth in a lifeguard uniform—humorously subverts the common misconception that lifeguards are "lazy."
In reality, Pat LaParesse represents all the incredible qualities we value in lifeguards! Throughout August, you’ll see more of Pat LaParesse featured on our social media and those of about fifty aquatic centers, showcasing various tasks that demonstrate the constant and tireless work lifeguards perform daily.
Stay tuned to follow its adventures!
