Foreign lifeguard
The Lifesaving Society recognizes the certifications from the lifesaving programs of other divisions across Canada. However, certificates, diplomas, or training from other organizations around the world are not recognized, and you will need to go through an equivalency process.
Here’s the procedure to follow:
#1: Find an Aquatic Center that offers lifesaving courses |Find a course ;
#2: Participate in what we call an "exam challenge," meaning you take the final exam and must pass all the requirements of the course. You need to take the "challenge" for the Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses. An "exam challenge" is a test in which all items of the course are evaluated, and candidates do not need to have taken the course beforehand;
#3: You must then complete a 16-hour General First Aid course;
#4: Finally, you must complete a 40-hour National Lifeguard – Pool training.
These steps must be followed in order as each course is a prerequisite for the next. This process will help you become a lifeguard supervisor.
You can find the items to be evaluated in the links above. Take the time to thoroughly prepare before your challenge.
If you wish to teach lifesaving courses, additional training will be required afterward.
