INSURANCE

Once a lifesaving sports club is incorporated and a board of directors is formed, the club must insure all its assets. These coverages are available to all clubs, hereinafter referred to as the Insured and/or Organization, registered with the Lifesaving Society, which is a federation that is a member of the Regroupement Loisir et Sport du Québec (RLSQ) insurance program. The following is a summary of the coverage offered.

SECTION A

PROPERTY INSURANCE

This insurance provides extended coverage against damage to the Insured’s property. This includes your manikins, fins, boards, paddles, surf skis, office materials, costumes, audio and/or video equipment or any other property owned by the organization. Coverage is provided for loss by fire and/or theft; however, a $1,000 deductible is applicable under the terms and conditions of the master policy filed with the RLSQ. In addition, coverage for equipment (owned by the organization) temporarily moved from the office or body of water by a person in charge of the organization and working on the organization’s business is included. This includes your computer equipment (computers/laptops). If the total value of your property is over $1,000,000, please contact BFL, as they must forward your file to the insurers. Replacement cost is available; however, you must send a list of the assets you wish to insure to BFL, indicating their replacement value.

IMPORTANT

The insurance limit for your property in transit is $15,000. If you are transporting your property and the total value exceeds this limit, please contact us so that we can modify your coverage. It is important to notify BFL 3 weeks in advance as they must receive a quote from the insurer for the additional premium and this premium will need to be paid before the coverage can be changed. These coverages have been added, including the following deductibles:

  • Sewer Backup/Water Damage          2,500 $
  • All other damages                                1,000 $

NOTE

Buildings are not covered under this program. If you own a building, please contact BFL. Also, drones cannot be insured under this program.

REMINDERS

  • If you own property that is in places other than your mailing address, please send a list of the property to BFL including the replacement value for each location (full address).
  • It is important to understand that the properties you rent/borrow are not automatically covered under this program. If you wish to rent or borrow property, it is important that a complete list of the property be provided to BFL by the owner of the property and that it includes the replacement value of each property. The name of the owner and the dates of the contract must also be indicated. Upon receipt of this information, BFL will contact you to advise you of the additional premium. You can send them to sports@BFLCANADA.ca. Note that you must have a property insurance policy with BFL to add these to your policy.

SECTION B

ADDITIONAL LIVING EXPENSES

If your place of operations is damaged because of an insured loss, it is very likely that you will have to continue your operations in another location, creating additional costs such as renting the premises, installing a telephone system, etc. This insurance covers these types of expenses that are in addition to your normal monthly expenses.

SECTION C

VALUABLE DOCUMENTS

This is an all-risk coverage that covers the cost of research to reconstruct damaged data/records as well as the cost of replacing paper and transcribing information. The term valuable documents apply to written, printed or inscribed materials such as books, maps, films, drawings, deeds, works, mortgages, and manuscripts.

SECTION D

FIDELITY INSURANCE

This section provides coverage for organizations that may be subject to embezzlement by an employee or volunteer who is a member of the organization and may have access to the organization’s funds. Note that the deductible is $1,000.

SECTION E

CASH AND VALUABLES INSURANCE (EXTENDED COVERAGE)

Clubs hold money and/or valuables from membership dues and fundraising activities. This money can be insured against armed robbery or theft from the home of the person responsible for the valuables. This coverage can be very important, as it is not always possible to make bank deposits immediately after a fundraiser and such a loss could have a serious impact on the organization’s operations. This insurance will cover you (on a 24-hour basis) against loss of money and/or valuables caused by theft, burglary, robbery or fire.
