Standard First Aid – IRS
You work in a sport or recreational environment as a coach, or a referee or volunteer in a sports team? Knowing advanced first aid techniques can prove to be a major asset in case you need to assume an emergency medical service role during an emergency.
The Lifesaving Society is the only organization that offers this comprehensive course, which has been developed in collaboration with the Conseil de médecine du sport du Québec. With this 16-hour training, you will be able to recognize the signs and symptoms that can occur during recreative or sport-related activities, such as signs of a concussion. This way, you will be able to administer the necessary emergency care and be able to determine whether an athlete can keep playing.
In 16 hours, you will deepen your knowledge of various topics, such as the clinical evaluation of a victim and the treatments to administer in case of a priority emergency (respiratory emergency, cardiovascular emergency, cardiopulmonary arrest, etc.) and a secondary emergency (convulsions, problems related to glycemia, environmental problems, etc.). Moreover, you will learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED), how to administer epinephrin using an autoinjector and how to proceed to a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult, child or infant.
This course can be adapted according to the type of sports or recreational environment in which the participants work.
