TEAM QUEBEC HEAD COACH
The purpose of the Team Quebec head coach is to lead and develop Quebec athletes actively committed to excellence in lifesaving sport. He reports to the Lifesaving Sport Coordinator and must respect all the conditions set out in the Lifesaving Society’s mandate.
CONDITIONS
- The Head Coach position is a 2-year term.
- The Head Coach must be based in Quebec and must travel to training camps and national and international competitions.
- A Head Coach who resigns will be relieved of his duties. The same applies if the Head Coach is inactive.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The Head Coach is responsible for all activities related to the Programme au développement du sauvetage sportif au Québec, including the establishment and monitoring of objectives, individual development and the evaluation of the team as well as the program. To this end, he must:
- Oversee the selection and supervision of specialized and/or assistant coaches.
- Identify coaching needs for national and international competitions.
- Manage health and safety as well as risk and legal liability.
- Respond to requests from coaches, athletes and parents regarding the Quebec Lifesaving Sport Team.
- Establish, on an annual basis, overall competitive performance objectives and conduct an annual evaluation of each athlete, both individually and as a whole.
- Work with the Lifesaving Sport Coordinator, specialized and/or assistant coaches to lead the development of athlete training plans.
- Monitor athletes’ progress, adherence to their training plans, achievement of records and goals, and propose modifications to their training or competition programs as required. This includes communicating with an athlete’s home club coach.
- Work with the Lifesaving Sport Coordinator and Team Quebec Manager to identify competitions in which athletes will participate and establish performance objectives for the competitions.
2. The Head Coach shall, with the support of the Manager, supervise, organize and conduct technical clinics for Team Quebec athletes.
3. The Head Coach must be present at the Canadian Championships (pool and beach) and share data with the Team Quebec Selection Committee to assist in the selection process.
4. The Head Coach must be present or designate an Assistant Coach to be present at various competitive opportunities in other provinces (e.g., Ontario Championships and Nova Scotia Championships) or internationally (e.g., European Interclub Championships and U.S. Surf Championships) as required.
5. The Head Coach shall attend scheduled Lifesaving Society meetings as required and provide updates to the Lifesaving Sport Coordinator. He shall prepare reports as required.
6. The Head Coach is responsible for implementing activities assigned by the Lifesaving Sport Coordinator that are consistent with the objectives of his role.
