SWIM TRANSITION
Swim Transition: Canadian Red Cross to Lifesaving Society Canada
Do you hold a Swimming Instructor certification card from one of the following two organizations, issued within the last 5 years?
Canadian Red Cross: Aquatic Safety Instructor (ASI)
YMCA: Swimming Instructor
And would you like to obtain a Swimming Instructor certification from the Lifesaving Society?
It’s possible! Here are the steps:
1. Register here (registration platform) for an RDA - SI (Recognition of Prior Learning – Swimming Instructor). This is a three-hour online active training session.
- To be eligible for the RDA, the candidate must be able to provide a copy of their swimming instruction certification mentioned above.
2. Register for, participate in, and successfully complete a Swimming Instructor requalification with the Lifesaving Society within three months following the RDA.
- Registration for this requalification is done directly with the organization offering the training.
- A current Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard certification is required for the requalification.
Once this process is completed and the results are entered into the candidate’s file, a Swimming Instructor certification card from the Lifesaving Society will be issued. This will allow the individual to teach the "Swim for Life" program, including the Junior Lifeguard program.
Several dates are available for the Recognition of Prior Learning for the Swimming Instructor certification.
