OCTOBER 2020 - EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP

LOOKING FOR THE TEACHING TOOLS FOR THE NEW BRONZE LEVELS PROGRAM?

The Lifesaving Society's lifeguard training is part of a nationally standardized program. The Quebec Branch of the Lifesaving Society must therefore comply with standards and training programs established by the national office.

Therefore, the review of the training program is part of a very specific process. This review includes various stages: an analysis of the program and its content, meetings with leaders and representatives of the various provincial divisions, pilot projects across Canada, etc.  After their introduction and a transition period, the programs resulting from this review must be adopted and taught by instructors in every province.

The Bronze program has recently undergone just such a revision. The revision has resulted in several major and minor changes to the content of the Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses in order to update the program.

The reasons for this revision are as follows:

  • To highlight current drowning research conducted by the Lifesaving Society across Canada, including the impact and consequences of non-fatal drowning.
  • To focus on the core competencies of lifesaving: skill, knowledge, fitness and judgment.
  • To improve the skill progression and make the transition to National Lifeguard more logical and seamless. It will also help to promote candidates' success throughout the lifesaving program (Young Lifeguard, Bronze Star, Bronze Medal and Bronze Cross).

You can now download lesson plans and exam sheets to teach the new Bronze program on your Dashboard.

We also invite you to view the webinar for instructors, coaches or affiliated members who are interested in learning more about the new Bronze program.
