New Regulation on Swimming Areas
The regulation amending chapitre X, Lieux de baignade, du Code de construction, as well as the regulation adding chapitre IX, Lieux de baignade, au Code de sécurité, were published yesterday in the Official Gazette of Quebec.
A 15-day grace period will be granted before the regulation comes into effect, officially starting on July 17. From that date onward, all swimming areas in Quebec will be required to comply with the new safety code requirements.
The primary goal of these regulations is to strengthen user safety, better meet the needs of the environment, and contribute to drowning prevention in public swimming areas, private senior residential pools, tourist accommodation facilities, and residential building pools (rental or condominium). They also aim to standardize the current regulations.
To inform you about the implementation of this regulation, the AQLP is organizing a discussion session on July 9, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. This event, led by experts from the RBQ and the Lifesaving Society, is free and open to all. We encourage you to register. You may also submit your questions in advance to allow the team to prepare clear and tailored responses. The registration deadline is Sunday, July 6.
The Régie du bâtiment du Québec will soon update its web site to present the changes introduced by this new regulation.
