SURF EVENTS
INDIVIDUAL EVENTS
BEACHRUN
In this event, athletes run 500 m, 1,000 m, 1,500 m or 2,000 m on the beach.
BEACHSPRINT
In this event, athletes must sprint 90 m on the beach.
BEACHFLAGS
In this event, athletes must jump from a prone starting position, sprint a 20 m and get a beach flag.
RUN-SWIM-RUN
In this event, athletes run 100 m, swim 100 m or 300 m and run 100 m again.
SURF SWIM
In this event, athletes swim 100 m, 200 m or 400 m.
BOARD RACE
In this event, athletes row 200 m, 400 m or 600 m on a paddleboard.
SURF SKI RACE
In this event, athletes row 800 m on a surf ski. This event is only for 15-18, Open and Masters athletes.
OCEANMAN/OCEANWOMAN
In this event, athletes must swim 100 m, 200 m or 400 m,row 200 m, 400 m or 600 m on a paddleboard and sprint 50 m. Athletes in the 11-12 and 13-14 categories must also run a 500 m or 1000 m, while athletes in the 15-18, Open and Masters categories must row 700 m on a surf ski. The order of events is determined by draw, with the run always being the last event.
RELAY & TEMA EVENTS
BEACHRELAY
In this team event, 4 athletes must sprint, one at a time, 90 m on the beach and pass a baton to one another.
OCEANMAN/OCEANWOMAN RELAY
In this team event, 4 athletes (a swimmer, a rower, a runner/rower and a sprinter) must swim 100 m, 200 m or 400 m, row 200 m, 400 m or 600 m on a paddleboard and sprint 50 m. Also, athletes 11 - 12 and 13 - 14 must run 500 m or 1000 m distance, while athletes in the 15 - 18, Open and Masters categories must row 700 m on surf skis. The order of events is determined by draw, with the run always being the last event.
BOARD RELAY
In this 2-athlete team event, a swimmer must swim 120 m to the assigned buoy. Once there, he must give a signal to the rower, who must row to retrieve him. Together, they must row back to the beach with the paddleboard to cross the finish line. This event is only forathletes in the 15-18, Open and Masters categories.
RESCUE TUBE RACE
In this 4-athlete team event, a swimmer must swim 120 m to the assigned buoy. Once there, he must give a signal to the other swimmer who will being towing, who must swim with fins and a tube buoy to retrieve him. The first swimmer ties the tube around his body, kick his legs, and they must swim back to the beach together. Once close to the beach, the other two athletes must pick up the swimmer and carry him to the finish line. This event is only forathletes in the 15-18, Open and Masters categories.
POOL EVENTS
INDIVIDUAL EVENTS
OBSTACLE SWIM
In this event, athletes must swim 50 m, 100 m or 200 m while passing under obstacles.
MANIKIN CARRY
In this event, athletes must swim 50 m and retrieve a manikin (½ full or full) and carry it to the finish wall. This event cannot take place in a 50 m pool for athletes in the 10 and under or 11-12 categories.
MANIKIN CARRY WITH FINS
In this event, athletes must swim 50 m or 100 m with fins and retrieve a manikin (½ full or full) and carry it to the finish wall. This event cannot take place in a 50 m pool for athletes in the 10 and under or 11-12 categories.
MANIKIN TOW WITH FINS
In this event, athletes must swim 50 m or 100 m with fins, retrieve a ½-full manikin using a rescue tube and tow it to the finish wall. This event cannot take place in a 50 m pool for athletes in the 10 and under, 11-12 or 13-14 categories.
RESCUE MEDLEY
In this event, athletes must swim 100 m, including 17.5 m underwater, to retrieve a full manikin and carry it to the finish wall. This event is only forathletes in the 15-18, Open and Masters categories.
SUPER LIFESAVER
In this event, athletes must swim 100 m or 200 m combining carrying and towing manikins. This event is only for athletes in the 11-12, 13-14, 15-18, Open and Masters categories, but cannot take place in a 50 m pool for athletes in the 11-12 and 13-14 categories.
RELAY & TEAM EVENTS
PRECISION THROW
In this event, throwers throw an unweighted rope in attempt to reach a crossbar, set in a swim lane, 3 times within a time limit of 1 minute 30 seconds. This event is for athletes in the 10 and under and 11-12 categories.
LINE THROW
In this event, throwers throw an unweighted rope in attempt to reach a teammate, holding on to a crossbar, and tow him to the finish wall within a time limit of 45 seconds. This event is only forathletes in the 13-14, 15-18, Open and Masters categories.
OBSTACLE RELAY
In this team event, 4 athletes must swim 50 m, one at a time, while passing under obstacles. This event is only forathletes in the 15-18, Open and Masters categories.
MANIKIN RELAY
In this team event, 4 athletes must swim 50 m, one at a time, while passing a full manikin to one another. This event is only forathletes in the 15-18, Open and Masters categories.
MEDLEY RELAY
In this 4-athlete team event, the first athlete must swim 50 m, the second athlete must swim 50 m with fins and the third athlete must swim 50 m with a rescue tube. The fourth athlete takes the third athlete's tube harness and swims 50 m while towing the third athlete, who must kick his legs. This event is only forathletes in the 15-18, Open and Masters categories.
