recertification for instructors

WHAT IS AN INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION?

An instructor recertification is an advanced training course. The goal is to ensure that instructors' skills are up to date and evaluated. We also want them to be informed about new theoretical and technical aspects related to their role as instructors so that they can continue to grow.

The credit system does not allow for the requalification of Level 1 certifications. Therefore, in order to stay up to date, these certifications must be requalified:

REQUALIFICATION AS A LIFEGUARD, FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR, AND SWIMMING INSTRUCTOR

In order to make the process more efficient and less time-consuming, we have introduced new skills maintenance and development activities for instructors who wish to keep their qualifications up to date.

This program will be launched at the annual forum in September 2025.

COMBINED RECERTIFICATION

You can now recertify two awards by completing a single recertification course, thereby optimizing your time and effort. To access this option, refer to the table below to see the prerequisites.

Training duration: The recertification will be limited to a maximum of 8 hours of in-person training, spread over a period of two years. Therefore, if you have 3 Level 1 awards to recertify, you will need to complete at least 2 recertifications.

Instructors wishing to recertify those who have not taught and assessed two bronze levels or taught 60 hours of swimming lessons or taught two SFA training courses in the year preceding their requalification must participate in each of the requalification activities, i.e., swimming instructor (4 hours), lifeguard instructor (4 hours), and first aid instructor (4 hours).

Concrete examples:

Guilaine: Holds SFA, LI and SI. She can register for a recertification course on Friday evening (MPS) and Sunday morning (choice between MS and MN). She will then have to apply via the credit system for her third awar. See the table for the prerequisites required to access the level 1 credit system.

Anne-Marie: HoldsLI and SI. She can register for a recertification of her choice based on her activities over the last two years and can apply via the credit system for her second award.

Cynthia: Holds LI and SFA. She can register for a recertification of her choice based on her activities over the last two years and can apply via the credit system for her second award.

Sandrine: Holds a single Instructor award. She will have to retake a face-to-face recertification course and will not have access to the credit system.

Véronique: Holds LI and SI awards. Unfortunately, she is not active (she does not teach bronze or swimming lessons). She will have to retake both requalification courses to update her awards.

*If an instructor has not been active in the last two years (according to the table above), they will have to complete allrecertificationsand will not have access to the credit system.

In all cases, instructors can choose to participate in all recertifications.

FOR TRAINERS:

In order to offer the various 2025-2027 recertification options, you must first complete an online workshop lasting approximately one hour. The recertification documents will then be shared with you.

To recertify your instructor award, you can co-teach a recertification course and participate in our new credit system. In this way, each trainer will certify their colleague.

Concrete example: Jessica and Elisabeth have completed the virtual workshop. They co-teach a swimming instructor recertification course and complete their form for the level 1 credit system to recertify their swimming instructor award.
