First Aid prerequisite for the National Lifeguard course
To follow a National Lifeguard course, the candidate must have previously completed the 16-hours General First Aid course. However, the Lifesaving Society agrees to recognize experience for candidates who have obtained their 16-hours General First Aid certificate with the Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol. Note that the only certificate issued by the FMCQ as an equivalency to the 16-hours General First Aid course is the CNESST First Aid in the Workplace certificate.
It is recommended that you contact the Lifesaving Society prior to beginning your National Lifeguard course in order to validate any certificates for which you are unsure of equivalency. Validation of prerequisites should be done when a candidate registers, not at the end of the course. We will not do any certification recognition over the phone. You must fill out the form available on your Affiliate Member Dashboard in the Administration section.
