The right dose of safety

Movement is essential to children's development. When it comes to sports, free play or active movement, safety is obviously paramount, regardless of age. Safety goes hand in hand with physical activity. However, the tendency towards overprotection and zero tolerance for risk can be major obstacles to the need to get moving. For children, this can have a negative impact on their overall development and enjoyment of physical activity.

What if a balance could be created? That's what the notion of well-balanced safety suggests.

Based on the work carried out by the Table sur le mode de vie physiquement actif, these capsules will help you discover how to create a safe environment conducive to acceptable risk-taking and children's overall development.

More specifically, you'll learn:

  • What are the concepts of balanced safety?
  • What is acceptable risk-taking and its benefits?
  • How to use the Haddon Matrix to analyze danger and risk according to the four areas of intervention?
  • How to use the Institut national de santé publique du Québec's analysis tool, based on the feeling of safety of participants and staff?
