    As part of International Lifeguard Appreciation Day, held annually on July 31, the Lifesaving Society takes this opportunity to highlight the extraordinary work performed by all individuals in this profession. According to an internal survey, 60% of the 20,000 certified lifeguards are actively working in various swimming facilities to provide the public with safe swimming environments.

    Facing a serious issue of chronic underfunding, the sports community is calling on political parties to commit to making sports a genuine priority in Quebec: funding for the network should be increased by $500 million just to catch up on delays and ensure optimal recovery.
  • 20 years ago already...

    On October 3, 2004, the sport lifesaving community was shaken by devastating news. It has now been 20 years since we lost an outstanding international-level athlete. Kelly-Anne Drummond was deeply involved in many aspects of the sport, loved and admired by her peers and the sporting community.

  • The Day I Couldn't Dive - A Book by Sylvie Bernier
    The official launch of the book The Day I Couldn't Dive will take place on Monday, April 8. In this heartfelt account, Olympic champion Sylvie Bernier shares the story of how she helplessly witnessed the drowning of her nephew, Raphaël, during a family canoe trip on the Nouvelle River in Gaspésie. A documentary recounting this tragic story, in which the Lifesaving Society played an active role, will air on Radio-Canada on Saturday, April 13, at 10:30 p.m.

    The lifeguard’s performance is heavily influenced by their level of attention. Aquatic supervision is a demanding task that requires constant vigilance. Understanding the factors that reduce or enhance vigilance is essential to adopting measures that help maintain alertness.

    Lifeguards now have a specialized shop where they can find everything they need. From swimsuits for training and supervision, to branded t-shirts and shorts, whistles, and pocket masks—these are just a few examples. In addition to clothing featuring the Lifesaving Society logo and items marked with a Lifeguard emblem, the shop also offers a selection of swimsuits with playful and colorful prints.
