The development and support of Team Québec athletes rely on a coaching and support team with expertise in lifesaving sport, coaching, and management.

The team may include a head coach, assistant or specialized coaches, and a team manager. These individuals work closely with the lifesaving sport coordinator to provide athletes with an environment that fosters development, performance, safety, and a positive team culture.

Selection of the Coaching and Support Team

Members of the coaching and support team are selected based on the needs of Team Québec and the Québec Lifesaving Sport Development Program (PDSSQ).

The selection process aims to identify individuals with the skills, experience, and leadership qualities required to support athletes in their development and appropriately represent Team Québec.

Depending on the role, various factors may be considered during the selection process:
  Experience in lifesaving sport, coaching, or management;
  Knowledge of competition rules and procedures;
  Relevant qualifications and training;
  Leadership, communication, and teamwork skills;
  Ability to contribute to a healthy, safe, and respectful sport environment;
  Availability to participate in activities, training camps, and competitions;
  Commitment to the values, policies, and codes of conduct of the Lifesaving Society.

Individuals involved in the selection process must disclose any situation that could represent a conflict of interest in order to preserve the fairness and integrity of the process.

The Head Coach provides sport leadership for Team Québec and contributes to the implementation of the PDSSQ objectives.

The primary role of the Head Coach is to support athletes’ progression and ensure consistency in their sport development.

Key Responsibilities
The Head Coach contributes to:
  Establishing Team Québec’s sport direction and objectives;
  Monitoring athletes’ progress and development;
  Participating in the development and monitoring of training plans;
  Supervising and supporting assistant or specialized coaches;
  Identifying coaching and support needs for training camps and competitions;
  Planning and leading technical training camps;
  Participating in competition preparation and coaching;
  Collaborating with athletes’ home club coaches to support their development;
  Contributing to athlete identification and selection processes;
  Promoting an environment focused on athletes’ health, safety, respect, and overall development.

The Head Coach works closely with the lifesaving sport coordinator, the Team Manager, and other members of the coaching and support team.

Depending on Team Québec’s activities and needs, assistant or specialized coaches may complement the coaching and support team.

These individuals support the Head Coach in preparing and coaching athletes and may provide specific expertise based on particular disciplines, events, or development objectives.

They may participate in technical training camps, training sessions, competitions, and the monitoring of athletes’ progress.

The Team Québec Manager is primarily responsible for the administrative and logistical coordination of the team’s activities.

This role ensures that the coaching and support team and athletes have the information, resources, and support they need during training camps, travel, and competitions.

Key Responsibilities
The Team Manager contributes to:
  Planning and coordinating logistics for activities and travel;
  Managing registrations and required documentation;
  Coordinating certain aspects of transportation, accommodations, meals, and equipment;
  Providing athletes and members of the coaching and support team with the necessary information;
  Assisting with the preparation of training camps and competitions;
  Supporting the Head Coach in organizing Team Québec activities;
  Facilitating communication among the various individuals involved;
  Ensuring compliance with administrative procedures and applicable requirements.

A good understanding of lifesaving sport and its competitive environment is an important asset for this role.
