Design and modernization
Designing, renovating or modernizing an aquatic facility requires balancing safety, regulatory requirements, supervision, functionality and facility operations.
The Lifesaving Society supports municipalities, facility managers and design teams in integrating aquatic safety considerations from the earliest stages of a project and throughout its development.
Certain decisions made during pool design can have a direct impact on supervision, emergency response and the future operation of the facility.
The Lifesaving Society provides specialized expertise to help assess the project and identify elements that may affect the safety of users and lifeguard teams.
The assessment may include:
The configuration of pools and aquatic spaces;
Supervision zones and visibility;
Access points and circulation around pools;
The location of lifeguard stations;
Rescue and communication equipment;
The organization of emergency response procedures;
Operational requirements and planned activities;
Applicable aquatic safety requirements and best practices.
The Lifesaving Society can provide support for new construction projects as well as the renovation or modernization of existing facilities.
Plans can be reviewed at different stages of the project, allowing recommendations to be incorporated as the project progresses:
Concept Plan → Preliminary Plans → Advanced Plans → Final Plans
The Lifesaving Society’s expertise provides a specialized perspective that complements the work of the professionals responsible for designing and carrying out the project.
This collaboration helps anticipate potential issues before the facility becomes operational, supports informed decision-making and contributes to the development of safe, functional facilities suited to the activities they will offer.
The objective is therefore not only to review plans, but also to contribute to a comprehensive assessment of how the facility will be supervised, used and operated on a daily basis.
An initial consultation provides an opportunity to present the project, determine the support required and identify the stages at which the Lifesaving Society’s expertise can be integrated.
