Recertification
First Aid Certification Recertification
Recertification allows individuals to maintain certain first aid certifications without having to repeat the entire course. It ensures that participants continue to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively in emergency situations.
During recertification, participants must demonstrate that they still meet the requirements associated with their certification. Adequate preparation before the evaluation is therefore recommended.
Certifications Eligible for Recertification
The following first aid certifications are eligible for recertification:
Standard First Aid/AED;
Aquatic Emergency Care/AED;
Emergency First Aid/AED – Early Childhood.
For other first aid certifications, participants must generally repeat the full course or maintain valid prerequisite certifications, depending on program requirements.
Special Requirement – Standard First Aid/AED
Standard First Aid/AED recertification is reserved for individuals who hold at least a valid lifesaving certification, either Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard.
Planning Your Recertification
Recertification courses are available through Lifesaving Society affiliate members offering the corresponding training.
It is recommended to schedule recertification a few months before the certification expires. The validity period cannot be extended beyond the scheduled expiration date.
Certification Validity
Standard First Aid/AED: 3 years;
Aquatic Emergency Care/AED: 2 years;
Emergency First Aid/AED – Early Childhood: 3 years.
Individuals who also hold an instructor certification should review the specific requirements associated with that certification to understand the applicable maintenance procedures and prerequisites.
