Aquatic LAB

Aquatic LAB is a support service designed for Swim for Life instructor teams looking to enhance their teaching practices and expand their approach when working with participants.
Offered directly at aquatic facilities, the LAB combines discussion, learning and hands-on practice to address real-life situations encountered on the pool deck.
Aquatic LAB provides an opportunity to further develop various aspects of swimming instruction. The workshop includes both a theoretical component and practical in-water activities, allowing participants to immediately apply the concepts covered.
Three topics are offered:
Develop different physical support techniques adapted to the age, abilities and needs of participants.
The workshop also explores the use of aquatic equipment as a teaching tool to support progression, build confidence in the water and create engaging activities.
Communicating effectively in an aquatic environment presents unique challenges. This topic explores different strategies for providing clear instructions, maintaining the group’s attention and offering constructive feedback.
Particular attention is also given to instructor positioning and the supervision of all participants during activities.
This topic presents different strategies for supporting teens and adults who are beginning to learn how to swim.
Progressions, teaching exercises and activities address different stages of learning, from discovering buoyancy to becoming comfortable in deep water.
The Lifesaving Society team travels directly to aquatic facilities to deliver the workshop to instructor teams.
Approximately two to three hours in length, the workshop includes a theoretical component as well as practical in-water activities.
This format allows learning to take place directly in the team’s work environment and encourages discussion about situations and challenges specific to the facility.
