Water Quality

Now Available as Asynchronous Training
Maintaining high-quality pool water requires regular testing, a good understanding of the parameters being analyzed, and appropriate action when results do not meet established standards.
In Quebec, the Regulation respecting water quality in swimming pools and other artificial pools establishes water quality standards as well as requirements for testing, sampling, and record keeping for the pools covered by the regulation. Testing parameters and frequencies vary depending on the type of pool and the analysis being performed.
The Water Quality Analysis course provides individuals responsible for conducting on-site water quality tests with the knowledge needed to perform analyses accurately, interpret results, and help maintain safe and compliant pool water.
The course covers how to:
Understand the basic operating principles of swimming pools and spas;
Properly perform the main water quality tests;
Understand the parameters being analyzed and interpret the results;
Identify the main contaminants and factors that can affect water quality;
Understand the requirements for maintaining testing and analysis records;
Apply good hygiene practices that help maintain water quality;
Recognize situations requiring corrective action;
Understand the actions required in specific situations, including fecal or vomit incidents.
The regulation requires records to be maintained for the pools it covers, including the results of water analyses and various information related to their operation.
The course is intended for:
Lifeguards;
Aquatic staff responsible for conducting water quality tests;
Individuals responsible for recording results in the required records;
Managers and staff members who want to better understand how pool water quality is monitored.
