A Week of Prevention

Every summer, National Drowning Prevention Week (NDPW) brings together municipalities, organizations, aquatic facilities and communities across Quebec around a shared goal: prevent drowning and promote safer behaviours around, on and in the water.

Coordinated by the Lifesaving Society across Canada, NDPW is an opportunity to remind everyone that drowning is preventable and to highlight key aquatic and boating safety issues.

Throughout the week, participating organizations are encouraged to bring the campaign to life in their communities through a variety of initiatives, including educational activities, information booths, special events, social media posts and other activities adapted to their community.

To make participation easier, the Lifesaving Society provides key prevention messages, activity ideas and ready-to-use resources.

What Is an Ambassador?

Participating in NDPW means becoming a true prevention ambassador within the community.

Ambassador organizations help promote safer behaviours and build a culture of safety around the water by organizing activities adapted to their communities.

Municipalities, pools, day camps, waterfronts, water parks, community organizations and other organizations can all take part in the movement.

A Different Theme Every Day

NDPW can take different forms depending on the setting, available resources and target audience.

Each year, the Lifesaving Society provides themes, key messages and activity ideas to help organizations build their NDPW programming.
