rips to a pool, waterfront or any other aquatic environment give children opportunities to be active, play and become more comfortable in the water. However, these outings require proper preparation and a clear understanding of the responsibilities of everyone involved.
The Safe Supervision of Children’s Groups in Aquatic Environments training course provides parents, lifeguards, day camp counsellors, managers and others responsible for groups with the knowledge and tools they need to help make aquatic outings both safe and enjoyable.
The training is based on the Safe Supervision of Children’s Groups in Aquatic Environments Guide and provides a better understanding of the shared roles and responsibilities before, during and after an aquatic activity.
Two Ways to Take the Training
The training is available in two formats, allowing organizations and participants to choose the option that best meets their needs.
The online training allows participants to learn independently and at their own pace. Approximately 45 minutes in length, it includes seven modules and questions throughout the course.
There is no final exam. Learning is assessed progressively through continuous evaluation.
Fees: The cost per person varies depending on the number of access codes purchased:
1 to 9 codes: $44.25 per code;
10 to 29 codes: $24.50 per code;
30 to 99 codes: $19.50 per code;
100 codes or more: $16.75 per code.
One code is required for each participant. Payment is made by credit card.

Contact the Lifesaving Society at alerte@sauvetage.qc.ca and indicate the number of codes required;
Complete payment to receive the codes by email;
Create an account and register for the training using the code provided;
Log in to the platform to begin or continue the training.

For the best experience
The training should be completed on a computer using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Each module, including all interactive elements, must be completed in full before the next module can be accessed.
If the message “Sorry, this activity is currently hidden” appears, an element in the previous module has usually not yet been completed.
The interactive workshop provides a participatory format for exploring safe group supervision practices in greater depth.
The 1.5- to 2-hour session is led by a qualified facilitator and includes discussions, activities and scenarios inspired by situations commonly encountered during aquatic outings.
The workshop covers topics including:
Drowning prevention;
Risk-taking behaviours;
Safe supervision techniques;
The Swim with Me Challenge program;
The roles and responsibilities of everyone involved.
The workshop fee is $750, regardless of the number of participants. Payment is made by credit card.
Plan a Safer Aquatic Outing
A successful outing depends on shared responsibility. Preparing the group, supervising children, communicating with the lifeguard team and understanding the facility’s rules all contribute to a safer environment.
The training helps those responsible for groups better understand their role and develop practices that foster effective collaboration between groups and bathing area teams.
