Aquatic Safety Inspector

The safety of an aquatic facility depends in part on thorough inspections of the premises, equipment and operating conditions. A structured inspection helps identify hazards, detect issues requiring attention and maintain a safe environment for swimmers and staff.

The Aquatic Safety Inspector course develops the skills needed to assess an aquatic facility using a structured approach and the Lifesaving Society's inspection tools.

It also provides a better understanding of the regulatory requirements applicable to aquatic facilities. In Quebec, Chapter IX – Bathing Places of the Safety Code governs various aspects of their operation, supervision, safety equipment and measures designed to protect swimmers.

This course enables participants to:
  Recognize best practices for the safe management of an aquatic facility;
  Conduct a structured inspection of a facility and its equipment;
  Use the Lifesaving Society's inspection checklists and tools;
  Identify hazards and conditions that could compromise safety;
  Recognize situations requiring intervention or corrective action;
  Understand the main regulatory requirements applicable to bathing place safety;
  Document observations made during an inspection.

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) emphasizes that bathing places must be maintained in good operating condition and meet safety and sanitation standards. It also provides inspection checklists to verify various elements related to signage, rescue equipment and supervision.

This course is designed for individuals responsible for inspecting or ensuring the safety of an aquatic facility, particularly those involved in:
