Recognizing Lifesaving Actions

Every year, individuals demonstrate courage, composure, and solidarity by stepping in to help someone in danger. Whether performing a water rescue, administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or responding to an emergency, these actions can make all the difference. The Lifesaving Society seeks to recognize and highlight these acts of bravery by presenting Rescue Commendations to individuals who have helped save a life or assisted someone in danger.
Through this recognition, the Lifesaving Society honours not only the courage and dedication of those involved, but also the importance of lifesaving and first aid knowledge. Every rescue reminds us that taking quick and appropriate action can change the course of someone's life.
What Types of Interventions Can Be Recognized?
Rescue Commendations recognize various types of emergency interventions, including:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Providing assistance to someone experiencing cardiac arrest.
Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED): Using this device to assist someone experiencing cardiac arrest.
Rescue Breathing: Providing breathing assistance to someone who is not breathing normally.
Airway Obstruction Relief: Assisting someone who is choking.
Water Rescue: Rescuing someone experiencing difficulty or facing danger in the water.
Other Rescue Interventions: Any significant contribution to a rescue operation that helped someone in danger.
Why Submit a Nomination?
Behind every rescue are individuals who chose to act in a critical moment. Submitting a nomination helps recognize their courage, initiative, and commitment to the safety of others. It is also an opportunity to raise public awareness about the importance of prevention, training, and being prepared to respond in an emergency. Because every action matters, and lifesaving efforts deserve recognition.
Rescue Commendation Ceremony
The Rescue Commendation Ceremony is a special occasion to honour individuals who have demonstrated courage, composure, and determination while helping others in danger. During its Annual Forum, the Lifesaving Society highlights these acts of bravery and recognizes the exceptional commitment of those who have helped save a life or assisted someone in danger. This recognition also serves as a reminder of the importance of lifesaving and first aid skills, as well as the value of every action taken to ensure the safety of others.
