Integrity and Safety

Creating a healthy, safe, and respectful environment is a shared responsibility among everyone involved in leading and supervising sport and recreational activities.

As part of the Québec Safety and Integrity Program (PSIQ), a series of learning modules explores real-life situations involving interactions between those responsible for supervision and participants.

These tools are designed to promote respectful, safe, and inclusive practices in training, teaching, and supervision activities.

Why talk about integrity and safety?

Integrity and safety are based on a set of practices that contribute to creating healthy, respectful, and safe environments. They apply both to behaviours and interactions between individuals and to the environment and equipment being used.

Recognize best practices and adopt behaviours that contribute to a safe and respectful environment.

Use appropriate equipment that complies with the safety standards applicable to the activity.

Promote responsible, respectful, and inclusive interactions among everyone involved.

Recognize inappropriate behaviours and help prevent abuse, harassment, neglect, and violence.

Take Action

To take these concepts further, the following activities provide opportunities to put the topics covered in the learning modules into practice and reflect on real-life situations that may arise in a supervision setting.

Activity: Ethics, Diversity and Inclusion
Instructors will guide candidates through interactive discussions and practical scenarios designed to promote diversity, inclusion, and ethical practices in recreational and sport environments. They will explore common situations where understanding cultural differences, equal opportunities, and mutual respect are essential to creating a healthy and welcoming environment for everyone. Candidates will have an opportunity to reflect on their attitudes and behaviours and identify concrete actions for incorporating these values into their professional practices.

Activity: Code of Conduct
As part of the courses, instructors will lead workshops in which candidates explore the principles of the Code of Conduct through real-life scenarios. These activities are designed to raise candidates’ awareness of the importance of acting respectfully, responsibly, and professionally at all times. They will learn to identify appropriate behaviours and respond to situations of non-compliance while ensuring participants’ safety and well-being and maintaining a positive and respectful environment.
