Re-examination

Re-examination After an Unsuccessful Evaluation
Candidates who do not pass the initial National Lifeguard certification evaluation may be eligible to take a re-examination without having to immediately repeat the entire course, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
However, the re-examination is not limited to the items previously failed. All components of the National Lifeguard evaluation are reassessed, including theoretical knowledge, physical requirements, and rescue situations.
Candidates must:
Complete the re-examination within one year of failing the course;
Hold all required prerequisite certifications;
Provide the unsuccessful evaluation report and any requested documents;
Obtain authorization from the Lifesaving Society before participating in the re-examination.
A maximum of three re-examination attempts is permitted. After a third unsuccessful attempt, candidates must repeat the National Lifeguard course before attempting to obtain the certification again.
Candidates are encouraged to review and practise all course components, particularly those they did not successfully complete during their previous evaluation.
Candidates are encouraged to review and practise all evaluated components, paying particular attention to those they did not successfully complete during their previous evaluation.
Whenever possible, candidates may also attend a few hours of a National Lifeguard course before their re-examination to practise techniques and prepare for the evaluation.
Once eligibility has been confirmed by the Lifesaving Society, candidates must:
Find a National Lifeguard course or recertification session where the re-examination can take place;
Contact the aquatic facility manager before registering to confirm that the organization can accommodate the re-examination;
Ensure that the National Lifeguard Instructor has the necessary information and sufficient time to conduct the complete evaluation;
Submit the selected date and location to the Lifesaving Society for final approval.
As the re-examination takes longer than a regular evaluation, it is important to plan and obtain approval in advance.
