2017 Drowning report, Quebec version
The Quebec version of the 2017 Drowning Report was published last September, prepared for the Lifesaving Society by the Drowning Prevention Research Center Canada. This report is very valuable because it allows us to consider the different data related to drowning: the victims, the places and moments where the incidents happened as well as the type of activity practiced by the victims.
Upon reading the report, it is apparent that from 2010 to 2014, most of the drowning incidents in Quebec happened in natural water bodies (73 %). Rivers are particularly implicated (42 %), followed by lacs and ponds (28 %). This represents around 60 persons who die each year in the aquatic environments.
