  • Canadian Lifeguards at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
    In preparation for the Paris Olympic Games, the Fédération Française de Sauvetage et de Secourisme reached out to the Lifesaving Society to fill volunteer lifeguarding positions during aquatic events such as triathlon, swimming, rowing, and many more. Following a call for applications from Canadian lifeguards, 700 applications poured in, were reviewed, sorted, and sent to the Federation for final selection.

  • International Lifeguard Appreciation Day – July 31

    As part of International Lifeguard Appreciation Day, held annually on July 31, the Lifesaving Society takes this opportunity to highlight the extraordinary work performed by all individuals in this profession. According to an internal survey, 60% of the 20,000 certified lifeguards are actively working in various swimming facilities to provide the public with safe swimming environments.

    Facing a serious issue of chronic underfunding, the sports community is calling on political parties to commit to making sports a genuine priority in Quebec: funding for the network should be increased by $500 million just to catch up on delays and ensure optimal recovery.

    On October 3, 2004, the Lifesaving sport community was shaken by devastating news. It has now been 20 years since we lost an outstanding international-level athlete. Kelly-Anne Drummond was deeply involved in many aspects of the sport, loved and admired by her peers and the sporting community.
